5Excellent advanced calculator
By Jasfourfun
This graphical calculator was bought for someone studying engineering at university and does the job admirably. It does just about everything you could ever want including a spreadsheet facility no less, and it connects to a computer via USB for even more functionality. Monochrome display rather than colour, but with a backlight that can be switched on or off. The instructions with worked examples are easy to understand and comprehensive but do need to be studied. Using the calculator straight out of the box is not feasible. Powered by four AAA batteries, they seem to have a good life, at least with the backlight off most of the time. The natural data entry allows you to enter formulae straight out of text books and the calculator is programmable. The computer link allows programs to be written on the computer and then transferred to the calculator, and vice versa. It will solve simultaneous equation systems in six unknowns (as well as sixth degree polynomials). More than a premium price to pay obviously if all you want to do is to add up your bills but definitely worth it if you really need the facilities on offer. The calculator is a bit on the bulky side if you are used to a pocket calculator but otherwise no problem issues.

4CASIO FX-9860GII SD
By V. Markov
1) It accepts SD cards 2GB or less. (+)2) Spreadsheet function in calculator is not same as MS Excel, with much smaller size and much less available options for editing. So if you are planning to transfer something from MS Excel or Open Office and use it in CASIO - no way. (-)3) Connection to computer... Problem with FA-124 Link between calculator and PC under Windows 7 reported by some people. If you are going to use FA-124 Link check on-line before you buy it, if it is going to work.(-)4) PROGRAMMS. Every time I stop performing program I have to press AC button (to stop program), then EXIT (to leave program), but it return me NOT to Main Menu or List Of My Program. Instead, it opens "body" of the program itself. If after AC and Exit you press something else by mistake and don`t notice it, you will damage your program. Only if your program password protected, after pressing AC and Exit you will transfered to list of your program. But, once your program created you can't protect it with password. Have to delete it and start again by inputing whole program manualy (-)5) Speed. Compared FX-9860GIISD and FX-7400G PLUS. FX-7400G PLUS is twice as fast. Buy FX-9860GIISD only if you need SD card, or functions available in it. Buy FX-7400G if you need speed and cheaper programable calculator. (-)6)CASIO FX-9860GIISD does Not have back up battery, because everything stored in permanent memory and you can always replace batteries in calculator without risk of losing all your program. (+)7) It has a backlight screen option. As I am working at construction site I am using it often in dark places, and backlight screen is very usefull. I wish it was waterproof, and had USB port to conect printer as well (joke). (+++)Overall good calculator. After using it for 6 months I can say it has nice responsive keyboard and I realy like it.Had some problem with connection to laptop but it was sorted out with help of the Casio Customer Service.Only one thing... I think when program executed pressing button AC must interrupt program and return user to the first line (beginning) of the program, and button Exit must interrupt program at any time and take user out to Main Menu or List Of Program.

4A good calculator for Futher Maths
By Philip M Russell
This calculator is much thicker and heavier than other Casio calculators I have used. For Further Maths, this calculator and its smaller brother the fx-991esCasio FX-991ES Calculator make ideal companions. This calculator alone is not enough for Further Maths. I bought this calculator for its graphical capability. This was the first calculator that I have bought that I had to read the manual before I used it. The Menu system took a little bit of getting used to, but now I love it. In each different mode the top F buttons are used to bring in the different functions. There are some effective add ons to this calculator namely adding CAS to the menu, which gives many extra features to the calculator. The calculator is programmable but learning the programming from the manual is difficult as it is rather weak. Many of the add ons available are games rather than programer to extend the functionality of the calculator.I went for the SD version of this calculator rather than what my students chose. The SD version allows much easier movement of information to and from the computer, much better than the USB lead that is supplied. The calculator takes a lot of getting used to. It is not simple to use. But it is very powerful and quite intuitive once you have read the manual (and understood it).
