One of the welds on my Merkur Vision 2000 has just failed - part of the mechanism that holds the blade. The razor has lasted three years. In a way, I am glad, because I can buy a new razor - and it won't be a Vision 2000. I just logged on Amazon to find another razor and I discover that the three star review I posted in 2007 against the Vision 2000 is no longer displayed and miraculously, the product now has five stars.My comments in 2007 still hold true.Begin quotation:Too heavy and unwieldy.Inserting the blade may be easy, but removing the blade is fiddly.Provides a fabulous shave when the adjustment is tuned.Very well engineered.I would suggest the Merkur Future would be the better option - as long as the blade gap can be adjusted in the same way as the Vision 2000.End quotation.Link to original product:Merkur Vision 2000 Brushed Steel Razor

Merkur Vision 2000 Safety Shaving Razor - Matt ChromeTo state the obvious, there is a physical limit to how close a shave one can get or would even want. I am sure that there are several ways of achieving the closest shave possible and to be fair the razor is only part of the equation. So in reviewing this product I have to include my preferred shaving oil, shaving soap, blades and brush as the synergy between all these components makes a huge difference.The Merkur Vision 2000 is certainly an excellent razor, very well engineered with a perfect weight and balance. For those people who are more used to multi blade razors using a double edged safety razor is going to feel a little different. Much more care needs to be exerted otherwise blood will flow, an indication that this razor is capable of a very close shave. I use the weight of the razor to determine the pressure needed, beware of exerting undue force, a light touch is all that is required and short strokes.My preferred blades are Wilkinson (they seem to last longer than Merkur), in combination with Proraso shaving cream applied with a Dovo silver tipped badger brush. I have also found that for the ultimate shave use a couple of drops of shaving oil (King of Shaves) prior to applying the cream helps.So the bottom line is basically the sum of these products produces for me the ultimate in close shaves. I cannot fault the razor in any way and am sure it will last a lifetime or two. The big plus is economy, I've calculated an annual saving of about £50 over using 5-bladed razors. The small minus is that it takes a little longer to shave as I do tend to take the razor apart every time to clean. One final word of warning, when using a new blade adjust the gap closing the distance between blade and razor edge and as the blade loses its keen edge the gap can be re-opened. This is very much a personal adjustment, just be careful. Thoroughly recommended

after years of waisting money on expensive vibrating shavers, i have discovered the ultimate in shaving excellence!this is probably the greatest development in wet shaving and i doubt it will be eclipsed.the investment is rewarded by reducing your overall cost per shave dramatically. i would recommend this product to anyone who strives for perfection.
