The BEST backpack for a long lens
By Jeff Slocombe
I've always liked the quality of Lowepro gear and as well as a couple of fleeces I have two other camera bags and a couple of pouches for compacts.Having recenntly purchased a Canon f4 IS 500mm prime lens I had no hesitation in going for the Lowepro LensTrekker 600AW II to house my new lens on my Canon EOS 7D.The bag comfortably holds the lens with both lenshood and body attached although it does use the full length of the bag.Unfortunately since buying a 1.4x extender the whole assembly is just 1" or so too tall for the bag to zip up and I have to either fit the extender when I need it or reverse the lenshood which then means plenty of extra room on top, room enough for a bean bag. This bag is perfect for anyone using the Canon 500mm prime lens with lenshood and camera body attached.

Lowepro camera/heavy lens carrier
By Peter Warne
Top level telephoto camera lenses are very expensive and cumbersome. You really have to want the difference in quality that they bring. So a protective bag which doubles as a backpack is a very useful addition to the kit. And this bag works very well. I'm using a Canon f4 500mm lens coupled to a canon dslr and both are very well protected and held rigid with some clever internal padding and velcro. In fact, the bag would easily house a bigger lens than the 500mm. There is a useful front pocket for extra storage and some internal pockets for memory cards. There are straps on the side for tripods as well so all in all, it does what is says it will and very well. A pity that the manufacturers couldn't supply something of the kind in with the original purchase. All very positive, therefore. It just falls down on price (which is a bit high) and despite the numerous pockets, some better creativity in the storage line; to house a smaller lens as well perhaps. In short, the pack is pricey and could have a bit more storage space but other than that, it protects lens and camera very well and provides a very good way of getting such a huge amount of glass out and about.

Great bag if you own a long lens
By LondonBairn
Bags seem few and far between if you own a large telephoto (in my case a 400mm f/2.8L IS II USM), and often work but only with the hood reversed. Although the cases that come with long lenses are nice, it's a bit inconvinient to constantly unpack etc. I would much rather go out with everything attached.I can fit a 1Dx, the 400 and a 1.4x attached with no problems, and have trudged it across mud etc with little issue. I haven't tried putting it on my back, I carry it with the suitcase style handle, as it is rather high to put on your back.I have not tried it with the 2x extender attached (I think it may be on the edge of not fitting at this point), but so far so good. Loads of space in the compartments to bring accessories too.Recommended.
