I bought this for my daughter's 3rd birthday (in December so we chose this house with snow on the roof; very apt as it arrived in 3 feet of snow). She has been absolutely delighted with it and plays with it for several hours every day.It was very easy to construct (2 adults 1 hour - you need 2 to avoid breaking it during construction). Assembly is slightly odd, however; for example I expected to be able to remove the side window boxes, but in fact they are an integral part of the mechanism keeping the whole thing together. You need a screwdriver to attach the doors; otherwise the whole thing pegs together without the need for any tools. It initially seems a little flimsy (to an adult) once built, but is in fact perfectly fine, although not the rock-solid sturdy construction of other manufacturers houses (IE the ones that are pre-assembled). NB It is not really wood, but a kind of MDF material; this is fine, and allows for a very smooth painted finish, but does mean you have to check the corners carefully when it arrives; they tend to crush if the box has been dropped. The doors are attached with screws used as a clamp (IE rather than going through the wood), which makes me worry that they may come off if leant upon; so far, so good, however.The roof lifts off and/or folds back, and has chipped all along the apex because of normal use; these are teeny little rubs rather than huge lumps falling off, so it does not detract. There is only one staircase, from ground to first floor, and none up to the attic; mildly annoying to an adult; but totally irrelevant to my daughter. Every surface is decorated; the internal walls are pink and yellow, the floors are wood-effect, and the front and both sides have a brick effect. the back is painted but plain (no windows or brick effect), and the back roof has a tile pattern but no snow. The front windows open outwards but not inwards; the side windows (which add lots of light to the house; missing from most other dolls houses we looked at) open both ways. The front opens with one large (2/3) and one small (1/3) door which fasten magnetically. They are very satisfactory, and easy to use. The pale blue colour of the house is far more delicate and less lurid than in many of the photos online (and we found it much more appealing than the constant PINK PINK PINK everywhere else...).We bought far too much stuff to go with the house. Many websites have deals on buying several of the roomsets; we bought all 6 of the Rosebud sets; this was a mistake. While they are absolutely beautiful, I'd strongly recommend choosing only 4 out of the 6 (and would suggest that kitchen and bathroom should be your priorities). If you have more, you just can't fit them in (but you can of course rearrange the house every day and have a box to store the excess furniture in - which is what we are doing). Several items cannot fit in the attic (the shower, for example, and the wardrobe. I'd also recommend buying the very detailed Le Toy Van playmat if you have the spaceLe Toy Van Doll's House Playmat. The car is also a big hit with my daughter Le Toy Van Sophies CarAll in all an excellent purchase, and one that I wholeheartedly recommend to children aged 3 and over, especially if you want a pretty dolls house that is different from the run of the mill.
