Tefal owes its origins to a Frenchman, Marc Grégoire, and his wife, Colette. M. Grégoire, a keen fisherman, wanted to make his rod reel in more smoothly and, in the 1950's, experimented to see if a non stick coating might provide the answer. It did! But it was his wife who made the real breakthrough by gently suggesting that coating the cooking pans would have a more worthwhile application by making them easier to cook with and simpler to clean. Now, Tefal is the number one name in non-stick products and small appliances, operating in over 120 countries. Tefal remains committed to making household tasks easier and cooking results better, through a constant flow of new ideas and technology.

5Excellent value.
By A. Fenton
These pans are superb quality at an excellent price. They feel very substantial with comfortable handles but are not too heavy in use. The non-stick surface of the pans performs extremely well; I must admit we stick to plastic tools although Tefal claim that metal tools can be used. The two frypans have Tefal's thermo-spots in the centre which do work, and the sides of the pans are higher than many frypans, which is really useful. The main reason we purchased these pans was for use on an induction hob, and we have not been disappointed. Some of the cheaper pans we looked at had quite small diameter bases whereas the Preference pans have larger diameter bases more suited to the working areas on the hob.

5Excellent quality pans
By HFR
We've always used ikea pans in the past mainly because they were cheap, which we now realise was a false economy as we had to replace them every two years. So far these Tefal Preference pans have been exceeded my expectations and performed very well. Nice heavy pans which evenly distribute the heat when cooking and makes food cook quicker. They are very dishwasher friendly. Not tried any metal utensils on them but it states that you can.Came with free delivery and well packaged from amazon. Very pleased with my purchase.

2Quite poor performance for the "top of the range" set
By Ivan Yakovlev
It is now about 10 months since I've got this set, and I have to admit that I'm not happy at all. Let's list it all.Good things:- look: it looks very good when new, saucepans are still like new with just minor wear in the middle of non-stick surface.- feel: everything feels good: well made, solid, moderately heavy bases (way better than aluminium brothers) (I would prefer them to be even heavier, but it must be personal, so doesn't count). Handles are strong and steady. Lid handles started to wiggle after a few weeks, but it was easily fixed with a screwdriver in seconds, so it doesn't count. Simply put, set feels good.Bad things:- lids. Very bad. Three things: - handles - they are piping hot! And I mean it. Even that plastic bit which you are supposed to touch. The metal bit circle at the top is even hotter. So my wife uses oven gloves to operate lids (and it doesn't work well because of next point, see below), while I just drop it quickly onto a cooking surface to avoid burns. - handles again - they leak condensed water! It means what when you take off a lid and turn it 90 degrees (so it's vertical), a boiling (just condensed) water starts to leak from gaps in between metal bit and plastic, and from gaps in between plastic and glass. It means that even if you used oven gloves to take lid off, boiling water will still get to your fingers though the glove! (and you'll have not just drop a lid itself, but also take off a glove to avoid burns) - "stainless tell rims for added style" as they describe it. These tend to gather condensed water, so when you take a lid off, there is plenty of water in it. Place a lid onto table without tilting - and water will slowly leak onto your table (plenty of it). Tilt a lid over the pan before placing aside, and you get into trouble with leaking water (issue above).- frying pans. Weak. Very weak. - non-stick surface. It's worn off in the middle of both pans, it is just grey now, no signs of thermo-spot or that surface grid any more. Food sticks to it quite hard every single use. Eggs, veggies, meats - everything sticks now. Let's be honest here: when we fry, we fry. Manufacturers' suggestions like "don't place pan onto hob with no food on it" don't work, as we don't want boiled or steamed food, we want it fried, so we do pre-heat pans. But no, we have never ever burnt anything on them, so I don't think that the problem is in overheating. If it really is, then these frying pans aren't made for frying, sorry. - heat transfer speed / evenness. No good. (NB! We use an induction hob. It could be different on gas/ceramics!) On our hob you can have food frying in the middle of the pan, while there are not even boiling water drops laying by a perimeter of the bottom surface. Same with speed: it is slower to heat up compared to other pans. I have two to compare with: cast iron Le Creuset grill pan (which is about 3 times heavier, but heats quicker), and WMF pressure cooker, which is similar in base weight, but heats up quicker AND much more evenly. So, after about 10 months of use on an _induction_hob_ (Neff T44T63N0) in a family of two cooking continental food, I am looking to replace frying pans very soon, what I believe is too soon for the "top of the range" set, no matter the price. Will replace lids if I find a good replacements as well, as saucepans are Ok, but lids are a pain. (they really are)Would I recommend this to anyone? No. - If you have an induction hob, look for better alternatives. You may have to pay more for them, but they might live for more than a year. And lids won't be an issue. - If you have a gas hob, I'd stick to "the heaviest of the cheapest" non-stick frying pans from your local superstore - these will cost you less than the first steak you put onto them, and will last for at least a year, after which you will get another one for as little - this worked for me quite well over years, it's just an induction hob which forced me to look elsewhere. I bought my first set of Tefal frying pans about 9 years ago (such a green ones, don't remember model name), and those survived for around 3 years. After those I successfully used the technique above and totally happy with it. - If you don't do frying, saucepans could work for you, but lids are bad, and why buy frying pans then?I hope this will help anyone. (it took a while to type this after all)Happy cooking!
