5Denon CD Player DCD-510AE
By Keithgadget
Purchased the silver Denon DCD-510AE from Richer Sounds via Amazon at a very decent price of £99.95. Apart from the bulky dimensions of the unit, we are extremely satisfied with the both product build and sound reproduction. Have connected it to our Sony HTSS1000 Home Theatre System using an optical cable costing only £2.50. Connecting using the SACD/CD input has resulted with excellent surround sound and have found no need to change the sound settings for playback of our Sony BDP-S370 Blu-Ray player as well as the Denon DCD-510AE CD Player. We just need to switch between periferal input components using the HTSS1000 remote. I suppose some audiophiles will find something to moan about but for us this is a great improvement to our enjoyment of our CD collection. The two (2) year Denon Warranty is not bad either. Our only negative mention is the extra £40.00 for the black version?Denon DCD-510AE CD Player - Silver

5It was great when launched 3 years ago & still great today
By Trev-R
When this was launched in 2009 it was given excellent reviews. Just because we are 3 years on and it has dropped by at least £100 doesn't make it any less good. My cost £99.99 from another Amazon Market Trader - Richer Sounds. At sub-£100 it must be one of the best CD players at the price.Build quality is excellent and the CD drawer is formed with substantial sides and is not just a flimsy tray like other players at this price. I am using mine through a Logic3 Valve 80 Amplifier - Logic3 Valve 80 Hybrid Vacuum iPod Dock Amplifier with Remote Control and I am extremely pleased with its performance. Here is an excerpt from my review of the Valve 80 using the Denon CD player which I bought at the same time:-------------------------------------------- "To give it a proper test I checked it out with my new DENON DCD510AE CD player which also came today. After making sure everything was setup correctly using the HiFi News & Record Review Test CD, I put on 'I've Got the Music in me' Thelma Houston & Pressure Cooker from the long defunct Sheffield Labs. The LP version of this used to be the standard demo discs used by HiFi shops to show off turntables. Sheffield Labs later released it on CD and it is an excellent disc to highlight flaws in your system and to burn in new speakers if left on repeat. I was amazed at how good this disc sounded. A wide sound stage with Thelma Houston spot in the middle on the vocal tracks and the instrumental tracks sounded so focused and sharp. One CD I always find struggles a little is the RCA Victor Living Stereo Stars & Stripes, Cakewalk with Arthur Fiedler conducting the Boston Pops Orchestra. This was recorded in 1958, the same year as Western Electric released the first stereo disc cutter and the Living Stereo label was launched. All of the CD's in the series are from the original master tapes and really give the amp and cd player a good work out. While not perfect the Logic 3 held its own and reproduced this recording better than I would have thought it would. The triangles are pin sharp and easily heard above the rest of the orchestra. Living Stereo do a wide range of different CD's and everyone should have at least one to test out their system."-------------------------------------------The remote control is quite large but well made and gives comprehensive and easy control of the main unit. This CD player is an absolute bargain and I would snap one up before they are discontinued.

5excellent
By AlfaLover
The unit is well built with a very nice aluminum front panel giving it a quality feel beyond its price (I was quite please when I unpacked it). Its unusual, in the sense that the silver actually looks better than its black counterpart - typically its the other way round. The silver has a very slight champagne tinge to it which may explain it and which you can't really tell on the pictures. I run this through a headphone amp with some Grado headphones and in my opinion its excellent. It replaces a much older but quite expensive Cyrus player and in my opinion the Denon for the price is great. The sound is detailed and tight with adequate bass and nicely balanced treble. Will it compete as an equal with a high end cd player, probably not, but for the price it surpasses the majority of players of similar price (and a bit more) out there and it does a great job with my Grado's. It can be bought for slightly less though if you shop around. Perhaps the only slight gripe is that the power lead is fixed into the unit and cannot be detached. Presumably this is one of the limitations of a more budget unit.
