5great gps device
By Steampunk Nick
its very easy to use and the fact you can add the gps data to the photos by putting your cameras memory card into the device means it works perfectly with Linux

4GPS camera attachment

This is a good idea which I have purchased early in its lifetime. It works well with a few niggles that I have suggested to Sony that they modify. One is that it does not run with an Apple machine, but that should be rectified fairly soon, Battery life (as is predicted) is rather low, daily renewal being necessary. After finding its bearings the device seems to work well in a pocket (no direct sky view) and even inside buildings. There is no indication how much of the internal memory is still available, but recent allday positioning over 10 days did not fill the device. Shall eagerly await software improvements from Sony (downloadable?).

2Sony GPS CS3KA

I bought this GPS for about £75. It's now been returned for the following reasons, which might be of interest to anyone considering buying one:It's very plasticy and cheap feeling. For the money, I expected something a little more robust, given it's use.Although it's not water resistant in any way, it comes with a equally cheap and nasty plastic pouch. I used a waterproof aquapac instead, as I didn't trust the quality of the pouch.I found that you can adjust the frequency of the GPS samples. It's set to every 15 seconds, which is ok for walking, but biking or a car journey makes the resultant track more of a join the dotd and quite vague. The biggest bug bear though was the software. In theory, I didn't need it, as I should have been able to plug the unit into my pc and transfer the log file. From there, I used Lightroom 4's map module to tag my images (after needing to convert the txt file to a gpx file. Unfortunately, my pc tried to recognise the unit, but constantly failed. I then resorted to loading up Sony's supplied s/w (230 Mb of it), just so I could plug the unit in. From there, every time I plugged a memory card or the gps unit into my pc, Sony's software would start and try to manage my images. There is no need to force the user to use Sony's software just to access the log files, so I've returned it.
