5Gorgeous HTPC case
By The Fat Monk
It will more than likely be the styling of this case that catches your attention - it's perfect for fitting in with black A/V gear. This isnt a case of style over content, though, by any means. The build wuality of the case is superb, and the inclusion of details such as silicone grommets for the drive mounts to help dampen any drive spinning sounds demonstrate the attention to detail in this case. The two side fans are almost silent! There are two versions of the case around, one with a VFD screen (which will likely match the look of your hifi gear) and one with an LCD. The LCD also has a built in IR receiver to work with the included remote control.Out of the box, the remote and receiver as supposed to work with Windows Media Centre, but I'm running Linux (MythBuntu) and there is quite some fiddling to get it to work. That said, there seems to be a lot of fiddling with any remote for non-Wondows installations so this is no criticism of this case (and no real criticism of MythBuntu as the developers are coming up with tweaks to make things easier all of the time). All in all, the case shoudl be the most trouble free part of any build, and this case certainly doesn't disappoint - and it really does look as nice as you'll be expecting!Again, the remotes supplied apprently vary (I received the PAD version which gas a 4-way directional pad in the middle).

4Antec Fusion Black Remote
By A. Swan
The Antec case has provided me with adequate space inside for a very large graphics card and Zalman flower fan. Getting the cables around inside has been fiddly as the power cables for the two case fans are not quite long enough to bypass the CPU fan to reach their terminals on the motherboard - they could do with being a few inches longer to give you room to manouver. The optical drive bay is pretty ingenius as it can be lifted out entierly, however I needed to modify the fascia of my DVD drive so that the case button could reach the drive button - this may not be a problem with all optical drives. The case fans are a bit noisy and I will likely upgrade these in the future. The markings for the two phono ports are extremely faint which, depending on your persuasion could be good or bad. I find it difficult to see which port is which without careful scrutiny, but it does mean the unit looks very classy without pictures drilled into it's surface. The biggest hitch for me is the LCD display wich looks burnt out, as if it has been used for a few years already. I have not raised this issue because frankly, once you've built a computer, having fought with getting the short leads in their best positions, who would want to strip down the unit, to build it again a month later? The volume button is very tactile and has enough resistance. The remote is function. The feet of the unit and interior sound deadening is generally good and the overall look is excellent. I rate this is the best multi-stack PC case for the money with just a few negatives to be ironed out or ignored by the user. It looks great with my Cambridge amp and Wharefdale speakers.

4Almost perfect
By A. J. Weston
I rated this HTPC case as Four Stars. The only real quibble is the front display which is basically ornamental as the functions available aren't ones that might be needed on a living-room media PC. I finally settled on having it display the date and time when in PC mode or the programme being played when in media mode.I have not used iMedia much yet but I may just not bother.Everything inside is thoughtfully laid out though the hard drive cables are at the bottom when fitting them at the top might have been more comfortable.Constructing the PC was straightforward, Windows 7 was installed and the iMon and iMedia software to drive the front panel and allow the remote to be used. In use the two 12cm fans are almost silent. I bought a third party CPU cooler with a horizontal 12cm fan. It too is almost silent. Just the slightest hum can be heard at night when its all on. Noise, therefore, is not an issue. Bear in mind I did not install a separate graphics card. I used a Foxconn G45M motherboard with built-in graphics perfectly capable of playing HDMI at 1080p.The remote is good once the sensitivity of the joypad has been adjusted. It allows for full control over all aspects of the PC from the armchair though I wouldn't want to use it for adding text with. I bought a separate wireless keyboard for that.Highly recommended if you have space. Check the dimensions of wherever it's to be installed. The Veris is a big case. Although it takes a mATX motherboard it's as big as a full ATX case lying flat as it does.
