Line 6 UX2 - Quality with Quantity
By Colin Brennan
The Line 6 UX2 Recording Interface is, in a word, superb. When I received it (well packed), it took less than 10 minutes to get setup. Software installation took somewhat longer (their products have a nasty habit of taking hours to update), but once we were installed and ready to go, I was blown away.Build Quality is A1. The unit is composed of mainly plastic (w/ metal sockets) and is surprisingly sturdy. It's fairly compact and looks the part of a professional interface. Compared with equal price interfaces, you could do a lot worse.Sound Quality is also A1. Using ASIO straight into REAPER, I got a crisp, clean, unaffected tone. With the included POD Farm plugin, a variety of tones could be achieved. The latency is one area I must mention. If you monitor with headphones (which you really should, with this unit), you will get completely latency-free play. It's.. wordless.I'm used to having a few milliseconds of latency with most devices. Thanks to a processing unit inside the UX2, latency is practically eliminated. Audio that is recorded is effected after the recording (thanks to the POD Farm plugin) so you'll be getting a raw input too. Combine that with some awesome processing power and versatility, and it makes a powerful unit. The ASIO driver isn't perfect, sadly. It uses a Line 6 written driver, and is somewhat.. awkward. That can be easily corrected by using a third-party ASIO driver.Either way, an excellent unit.

excellent product
By D. Bryant
First class product, worked straight out of the box,and comes with great software for recording and editing vocals and guitars etc.Only downside for me is that the set up instructions are bit confusing for a first timer. It pays to go to website and explore all you can about it. Ordered it from Amazon and delivered very fast.

A nifty piece of gear
By S. Firby
As a guitar player who has wanted the tools to record and expand upon whimsical ideas without breaking the budget, I was recommended this product by a friend who teaches music technology.I have to admit I was a little comprehensive when tearing open the packaging for this item. The box was flimsy and the product looked a lot less sturdy than I imagined. However once I installed the product on my PC (Windows XP), the fun began! The first program I installed was the "Pod Farm" - an excellent interactive guitar modelling piece of software. I was able to create some amazing sounds for my guitar rather quickly. The interface was extremely intuitive, and there are some great components to work with. Having said that, a few of the components were "greyed out" in a futile attempt to lure me into upgrading the software.I then had a mess about with "Riffworks" - admittedly the program did crash within minutes of using. Having said that, I personally won't use this program. The only good feature I could see with this program is the automatic drum machine. This program would be useful for someone who wanted to jam along to a beat, but as for recording a guitar to it, I wouldn't recommend it.I then installed "Reason" which I have used before. As a bundled product it seems quite pointless - it's better to use this with a MIDI instrument such as a keyboard. There is little if any value to be gained if you are only using a guitar.Last (and definitely not least) I installed "Ableton Lite" which is a great piece of recording software. After reading through the tutorials I was able to record multi-tracked pieces of music in no time at all. The UX2 really came into light here - recording layers of guitars and vocals was very straight-forward, and you are provided with an array of after-effects that can be applied to the relevant tracks. These effects really add functionality to the sounds you can create in Pod Farm. Drum beats and synth tracks that usually would require MIDI input can be inputted using your keyboard and then edited after using the MIDI editor. In summary:Cons - some of the software provided is not really relevant, and can be tempramental - i.e. Reason and Riffworks in that order.Pros - for the money paid you will get an excellent recording program and a great guitar effects unit. The Riffworks CD makes a handy drink coaster, and from prior experience, Reason takes on a life of it's own when interacting with a keyboard/synth.Highly recommended for any guitarist that wishes to record and expand upon flashes of inspiration in the confines of a low budget, without expecting the high-end features of software like Pro Tools and Guitar Rig for example.
