For a long time I've been looking for a vocal mic with a classic look but one that can perform on a modern stage without feedback. The sound quality also needs to be top notch. I'm pleased to say that the Super 55 meets all these requirements with ease. I had originally looked at the Super 55s predecessor the Shure 55SH Series II, but this did not cut it in the sound quality and feedback departments. With the Super 55 Shure have taken a modified Beta 58A cartridge and dropped it into this classic body to give a great leap forward in performance. To my ears, compared to my SM58 it is warmer and smoother. I also own a Beta 58A and as you would expect the vocal sound is similar, but the Super 55 does have it's own character which I love for certain types of music. I have found that some professional sound engineers are sniffy about this mic, but in my experience, if it is not an SM58 they are sniffy about every mic. The SM58 is great but I was looking for something different, and I've never had any problems getting the sound I want, and feedback is no worse with this mic than any other I have used. Shure mics have a reputation for quality and performance and this model does nothing to threaten that reputation. I can't decide which is more beautiful - the sound or the looks. Helped to select this for use by my vocalist daughter, who 'fronts' a live band, so control of acoustic feedback and pickup response pattern were important deciding factors. For various reasons I wasn't able to be present when she used it for the first time. However, even listening to someone's phone video of the event, the sonic difference was obvious when compared to her previous kit. There are cheaper mics out there but this one is worth the extra cash. If I could only use one word to describe it I would choose phenomenal.
