I bought these pickups to upgrade my Squier Vintage Modified J-bass. The attractive feature was the fact that no soldering is required, and that they are active pickups.There weren't any proper wiring instructions with these pickups (although there was a sheet with wiring information it wasn't useful) - but a quick google search found EMG's instructions for installing these pickups in various configurations. If those instructions were included with the pickups, then I would have given them 5 stars instead of 4.The wiring was incredibly easy, and didn't take long. It took me about an hour in total from opening the box, taking the strings off my bass, swapping out the electronics, and cleaning it - and that was taking my time!These pickups sound really good - I immediately heard a big improvement from the stock pickups - other reviews online describe the sound of these pups better than I can so search for them,Problems I have encountered:There wasn't enough space inside the J-bass control panel for the 9V battery, so I will have to do some routing by myself (I half expected this, and it isn't EMG's fault).My old tone knobs don't fit onto the EMG pots - I think my squier's knobs may be non-standard though!
