Product Description
Model 405 electronic bench scale is a totally portable machine ideal for use in a wide range of applications where high accuracy weighing is required. Especially in the catering environment where portion control is important.
With a choice of 6 kg x 1 g or 15 kg x 2 g capacities, the 405 is a self-contained unit powered by an internal rechargeable battery - with a massive 160 hours between recharges. Alternatively the machine can be powered direct from mains via the 12 volt AC adaptor included.
Featuring a large stainless steel platform - 245 mm x 215 mm and housed in a tough ABS case mounted on four adjustable feet, the model 405 is targeted at applications such as catering kitchens, post rooms, stores areas, warehouses and any other area where weighing needs to be carried out away from mains power. A level bubble is built in.
The model 405 display is easy to read, even in poorly lit areas and has large 17 mm high, red LED display digits. The display also includes annunicators for zero, net, AC mains connected, recharge battery, kg, lb, g and oz. Simple two button front panel - on/off/zero and tare/ units. Tare allows for the weight of containers to be removed and the net weight only displayed. Units switches the machine between kg, lb, gram and ounce display. The scale features auto-zero tracking to automatically compensate for small fluctuations in zero, such as a build-up of material on the platform. To extend battery life, an auto-off feature is standard. The operator can set the auto-off timing to between one minute and nine minutes of inactivity to suit the application. Alternatively the auto-off function can be switched off, leaving the scale permanently on until switched off by the operator.
Boxed Weight - 4.1 kg

Does what it says...
By Veronica and Peter
The Salter Brecknell Model 405 does exactly what it says in the product description but here are a few additional observations...Negative: To be honest, the only thing that I could even start to classify as negative is the footprint it takes on the work surface. It really needs leaving out on the surface because you have to adjust the levels (using the in-built spirit level style bubble) using the adjustable feet, so you either need flat and level work surfaces, or you need to set it up for using in one place.Positive:Footprint... having cited the footprint as a negative I also see it as a positive. Why? When I am weighing flour to make bread or cakes for example, I like to use a fairly large bowl to mix my ingredients in. Clearly it saves washing-up if you can also use this bowl to weigh the stuff. The 405 has a flat stainless steel surface onto which you can put bowls large enough to make a 3KG batch of bread and - crucially still be able to see the display. My previous scales weren't big enough and I had to rais the bowl on cork mats to see the display - not a good permanent state of affairs.LED not LCD... The LED display (Light Emitting Diode) is large, clear and easy to see since the number themselves are the source of light. My previous scales (and by far the majority of those on the market) are LCD (Liquid Crystal Display) and - especially when shadowed by a large, overhanging bowl are difficult to see in all but an energy-hungry halogen lit environment. Give me LED any day.Hygenic... The stainless surface just lifts off to wash and the unit is protected by a tranparent cover which is easily wiped clean.Resettable... I've had digital scales in the past that had to be chucked when they (as all computer/digital/chipped products do at some point) errored. The 405 can be recalibrated very easily and the instructions on how to do this are included with the product.Accuracy/Precision/Scaleability... I am fussy when making bread or sausages for example, that I can reliably repeat the ingredients next time. How can you adjust a recipe if you don't have confidence about the blend of ingredients you used last time? The 405 gives a 2 gram interval from 0 to 6KG. I have a set of diet scales for the very small, sensitive things that I weigh such as spice blends, but otherwise these scales will do the lot.Mains or battery... I love the idea that it has internal rechargeable batteries that are charged by plugging the unit into the mains. I means the unit is cable-free unless being charged and a charge lasts well over 100 hours - that's a lot of baking.Sturdy - The unit is cased in ABS plastic - that's the same stuff they make car bumpers out of. That means it can take a few knocks. All in all I am delighted with the purchase and anticipate not having to buy another set of kitchen scales for a decade or three! They are aimed at the commercial market and thay are priced accordingly, but my observation is that the quality of build, choice of materials and accuracy is also compatible with commercial needs. With that in mind I see the scales as very good value indeed.

Easy to use.
By Mr B
Easy to use, easy read display, comes with rechargeable battery installed and was ready to use straight away. We run ours on the mains so cannot comment on the battery life.

Excellent scales - accurate and long battery life
By E. Craxford
The scales were bought for weighing lots of parcels for mailing and weigh accurately and the battery lasts for ages without needing to be re-charged. Could definitely recommend.
