3They'll do for now but still searching for the perfect winter boot!
By moominkat
I wanted a decent non-slip winter boot to wear in the recent snow and wet conditions (fed up with slipping every time I went out). I've been happy with my Merrell trainers so hoped their boots would be good too. I tried a pair of Merrell boots in a local shoe store (I think they were called Spirit Something?) They looked and felt great but unfortunately they were too small. I tried to get them online but could only find these, so took the plunge. First the cons: They are not cheap and they are extremely difficult to put on. I asked for a size 5 and that's what I got, but the structure does not allow for easy pulling on. There's no 'give', despite a small elastic insert on the side behind the button feature, and no zip. If I wear thin socks, I cannot pull them on. Maybe it's a matter of time. That said, I have worn them barefoot and with popsocks/tights and they are incredibly warm and fit pretty well. There's wriggle toe room which I believe is a good thing, but my foot is held firmly over the arch so I'm not flopping about when I walk. The pluses: they are incredibly warm, as I said. I've worn them barefoot on bitterly cold days and my feet have remained toasty and dry. I've even come home, forgotten to take them off, mooched about the house, put my feet up etc and been quite comfortable. Which is odd, considering I think of them as glorified welly boots! So far I have not slipped nor felt unsafe when walking in icy conditions, but I have been careful, so don't quote me. They'll do for now, but I doubt I'd buy them again. So I'm still hunting for that perfect winter, snow, ice and wet conditions boot, which looks good on as well. If anyone has found such a thing, please tell me about it.

4Loved so much I have 2 pairs!
By MooMoo86
I loved these boots so much that I bought them TWICE!I work outside and I am on my feet all day and I can honestly say they are the comfiest boots ever! Initially I was skeptical about them fitting my chunky calves, but the buttons are just decorative and there is a hidden elastic panel that stretches so they never feel too tight or too loose. The only draw backs there are to the Puffins are:* You may need to get a waterproof spray or wax to make them a little bit more water resistant (if like me you are outside for 8 hours a day!)* The type of rubber used on the soles is soft, perfect for if there is snow or ice as this adds more traction, however constant wear on non-frost bitten pavements will lead to the soles wearing out quickly. (my first pair only lasted 7 months and were worn EVERY DAY!)Even with the few draw backs I would always recommend these boots! They are roomy, warm and comfy and for a girl who struggles to get boots to fit, they are just perfect!

5Love them to bits!

A really great purchase. Seemed indulgent at first but they are so practical really. Warm as toast and comfortable to walk in. I wear them to do playground duty as a teacher, watch hockey as a mens team manager and walk the dog as a Border Collie owner.
