Replacement for my laptop HD
By RegularJoe
My Samsung R540 laptop not 18 months old its hard drive started to fail.Gripe time...Samsung like other computer suppliers seem to be so cheap these days that they dont supply you with a DVD/CD restore disk, but instead put it on a partition of the computers hard drive. Great, use up MY hard drive space will ya!The idea is once you get your new computer you back up the system onto a DVD/CD/memory card... which i did, but in my case when i tried to restore it, it failed to work. Nice software Samsung! Hard drive copy wasnt going to work so contacted Samsung who said sorry cant help ya. I did get a legit o/s in the end.OK gripe time over.Bought this Hitachi Travelstar as I'd already had two other Hitachi Deskstar drives that have been very reliable and sooo quiet. The Teavelstar has been in the laptop for some time now, using it daily, and is working fine. And like the other Hitachi drives, is a quiet and responsive unit. The sellers were fine. Delivery very prompt and packaged appropriately. Would be more than happy to purchase from them again.

Good price, works fine but packaging could be better!
By S. Harrington
I bought this hard drive to replace an external hard drive that was accidentally dropped onto the floor - the external casing was fine, but the old hard drive itself was making a clicking sound so couldn't be trusted anymore. I extracted the hard drive from the casing of my external drive, made a note of the type of drive I needed and ordered this Travelstar 2.5" SATA drive to put into the casing. Much cheaper than buying the whole external hard drive. It arrived promptly, in fact surprisingly fast. It was sealed inside an anti-static bag. One note of caution, though, the only packaging that was around the actual bare hard drive was a jiffy bag. I'm afraid that's not enough to protect a delicate item like a hard drive, it should really be packed in polystyrene or foam and then inside a sturdy cardboard box - if it's going through Royal Mail, there's every chance it could get knocked, dropped or squeezed by sorting machines, etc. That's my only concern about this product - a new hard drive should be adequately protected and a jiffy bag isn't good enough. If you buy a bare hard drive in a high street shop, it's always in a box - usually suspended in the middle so that any knocks don't shock the hard drive mechanism. However, that said, the hard drive works fine in this case so far, so I'm pleased with it. It's silent and fast to write to, though it'll need formatting before use first. I'd think carefully before buying another from this seller unless they packed it better than this though.Hard drive quality: 9/10Packaging: 1/10
