Almost perfect colour laser printer
By LooksGoodToMe
I spent a few days exploring reviews and local shops to try and get an overview of what's available. My needs are for small business (brochure printing, spreadsheets in colour, and some home use (kids homework and occasional photo.I chose the Dell 3115cn because I had set a budget of £500 and wanted an all in one with scanner, copier, fax and colout laser printer. I seem to have devices and cables everywhere so all-in-one sounded a good idea. I am not a heavy user but still interested in economy of use. I also wanted a reasonably good photo quality print. Lastly I wanted it as small as footprint as possible, so was happy that it was tall rather tham wide. The Dell met this spec in theory but I couldn't find one to actually go and see (and even test). My experience with retail shops eg PC World, was that they couldn't really answer my questions and had their own ideas of what they thought I should buy. I was never asked what I wanted it for!, just overwhelmed with specs and prices options. So back to the internet.I found reviews which we mostly positive and helpful (Hence why I'm happy to share my expereince with other too - seems like the only way to shop now). The printer was more complex to unpack and setup than I expected. It is also bigger and heavier, but the packing was excellent albeit larger than a kitchen fridge. The black colour of the unit makes it look a bit boring and it is not the prettiest piece of kit in the office.Once unpacked, in position and pluged in, it was very easy to setup and use. I have it on a LAN network for several PC's and one is also connected by USB for scanning (you can't seem to do this over a network cable). The quality is excellent although not accurate - in my case it doesn't matter, but photos and skin tones a litle off. That said, I scanned a full colour brochure and printed it and it was very close. If you didn't have the original to compare it to, it was perfectly acceptable. The printing is also much faster than I expected. On initial start it was noisey and I was concerned, but it quickly dropped back to silent standby. It makes a re-assuring beep as a print job is received (useful inthe next ofice but may be irritating if you're sitting next to it all day and it's printing.)The menu is logical and works well.I'm sure there are better units out there, and better looking ones too, but I would have no hesitation in buying it again. I recommend this printer especially for the excellent price tag and quality/speed of printing. Dell 3115cn A4 Colour Multifunction Network Laser Printer

Four months evaluation
By Nicoleta
The printer still works just fine after using it daily for four months. The delivery guy wanted to leave the parcel at the entrance of the building and after my colleague asked him, he did helped her take it to the first floor, but not to the office, so as she was alone at that time she had to carry it by herself and it is a very heavy product! My only complaint about the product is that it is a pity it can't print A3.
