Quad Giga NAS Box
By Mr. Lee Smart
A friend of mine recommended the Cisco "Slug" Linksys by Cisco NSLU2 Network Storage Link for USB 2.0 Disk Drives to add my spare hard drives to my network as it is possible to hack them with a fresh Linux-based OS and use them as iTunes servers and so on but as I had 4 spare SATA drives, the extra cost of caddies was putting me off.I bought the Quad NAS box with high hopes and have not been disappointed.Installation was pretty straightforward but as my drives were already NTFS formatted, they had to be re-formatted before they could be used since the box requires FAT, EXT2 or EXT3 file systems. After a couple of hours shifting my data around so I could reformat each disk, I was sorted - brand new, empty hard disks are definitely easier to get running on this bit of kit!I am using the 4 disks in a JBOD (just a bunch of disks) configuration so each one appears as a separate drive to my network (IDE1, IDE2, IDE3 and IDE4). It is possible to set up share names on the NAS box but only if they are on disk 1. There is no way of creating shares on the other 3 disks.Once set up, the file sharing is faultless. I installed the BitTorrent application (TorrentFlux) from the CD that came with the box and it's a doddle to use. Log in to the web interface from any computer on the network and feed it the URL to the .torrent file you want to download. Set the bandwidth and off you go. Piece of cake.I'm a pretty competent network-savvy person and found it really easy to get this box running. Anyone who can format a hard drive and program a video recorder should have no trouble! One word of warning, the fan on this thing is really loud!! Mine sits in my garage so I can't hear it anywhere else in the house....

Excellent
By Ian White
I spent a lot of time looking around for the perfect device to connect to my network without breaking the bank. I looked at the drobo which retails at well over £300! This device comfortably fits all my 4 hard drives and connects to my network allowing me to view any of my movies in my living room. Excellent buy, would buy again!!
