I've tried quite a few pedals in my time and an Octaver I feel is essential in the bass players gear bag. I had a Boss OC-2 pedal for years and nothing touched it. Unfortunately it started to go wrong and after about 7 years (2 years after the warranty had exhausted) I sent it back to Roland/Boss but they couldn't fix it. They actually sent me FOC a new OC-3 pedal, but, it did not sound the same and was a little more complicated than the OC-2. Although the OC-2 was the best around its tracking was a problem so I started to look around the market for an alternative. The MXR M288 was what I found having done my research via the internet and even tried it in a local shop to make sure. Perfect! The tracking was even better than what I had seen on the internet and so simple to use, my advice? Get one!

After much research I chose the MXR M288. It has good reviews and solid build. It's not the cheapest out there though, so if you are a tight wad look at the many bargain basement cack thats out there. It adds the boost to my sound, I only gently mix it in to give that thicker bottom end, and it enriches my top end slapping and popping. I hate effects on bass as I am somewhat of a purist but this certainly adds to the sound rather than replacing it. Use it wisely. Its excellent for the price. I shall be definitely sticking with MXR gear if I need anything else.
