Bought this lens as an upgrade to my horrible kit lens, and my what a result. Out the box it feels well built, feels smooth to handle and the HSM that is used in the auto focus is brilliant, it is so silent and quick. Have not been out yet due to poor weather but have taken a few shots around the house such as light expermentation etc and what a difference to the kit lens!!!! The images are super sharp and the f2.8 aperture at 18mm means that this performs much better in low light compared to most kit lenses that have an 18mm aperture of f3.5. Also very pleased with Amazon's speedy delivery. I did notice the lens had a rattle inside but this is normal and should not put you off as this is sigma's optical-stabilisation element which is vital for a lens to have. The lens also comes with a petal-shaped hood which is a bonus as bayonet fitting lens hoods aren't usual accesories to be provided with a kit lens, so you can attach a filter and still have the lens hood on. If you are looking for a reliable, well built upgrade for your kit lens at a budget price and a lens that performs professionally, this is it.
