4Great stove, not quite so lite
By K. Whitworth
The last stoves I used were some time ago - hexy (solid fuel) stoves, old Primus petrol stoves and the odd bluet stove. The Primus Eta Packlite was a revelation. I like the way it all packs up into the pan, and the fact you get a plate and bowl as part of the package. In use it's very quick to boil water - much quicker from cold than any of the aforementioned stoves. Does the heat exchanger on the pan make a difference? No idea - I haven't tried it with a normal pan yet. Anyway, it works well for a couple of people (esp if using dehydrated food), or a luxury for one (there's smaller and lighter in Primus's series, or of course the Jetboil). However, I was really dissapointed to discover the weight is nowhere near the 596g claimed by Primus. OK, I know it's sad, but I weighed it, and all together (without gas) it comes in at just over 700g. I reckon 596g is just for the stove, pan, wind shield and lid (ie no stuff sack, bowl or plate/heat exchanger protector), but when Primus talk about using the bowl to protect the non-stick coating on the pan, it doesn't seem right for them to quote weights without it.To sum up, I'm glad a bought it and am very happy with it, but feel slightly misled by Primus that it's not so "lite" as claimed.
