5Fenix TK40
By TraZer
Fenix has made a very useful torch with the TK40, with a very nice angle on the beam, with both the spill and the hotspot!I like the tint of the light also, that is a very clear improvement from my Maglite 3D LED.The TK40 mates perfectly with Eneloop batteries, and they run totally cool, even in the turbo mode! After ten minutes in turbo mode, the torch is hot, but the batteries inside are still cool. This speaks well for battery life, since high temperature is the main thing, that shortens the life of the batteries. The TK40 runs the eight AA batteries in two groups within the same battery holder. This means that one battery that fails will not put out the light. One failing battery may cause others to heat up, and make the rubber tailcap bulge from the increased air pressure, when the air expands.I suggest a charger with the ability to monitor the health of each battery individually, so they can be removed from the battery pack, long before any trouble arrise. These chargers have become very cheap, and gets the best life out of every battery. The interface on the TK40 is in the 'always ready' mode, when the head of the light is tight. This will draw a little current from the batteries, if the head stays tight when the torch is stored.Eneloops will be fully drained within a year, in this mode. The plastic case, that is used for storage, have room enough for the head to be loosened, by the three turns, that saves batteries from draining. This is a very nice detail!I received my TK40 with the new battery holder, that looks totally identical to the one used in the TK45.There is no sign of any battery trying to escape, when the holder is fully loaded. You may add some electrical tape, if you are nervous about that.

5Solid and Bright
By Parkway
A reasuringly solid bit of kit - not too big to be portable and I'm told it will fit the Maglite holsters. The light is everything I'd expect from a Fenix: Bright, well-focused and even. The lowest power level is just bright enough to be useful, the 'beacon' and 'strobe' settings are eyecatching and blinding and the full power of 'turbo' mode gives you as much light as you're likely to want to walk around with. The other two power levels are somewhere in-between, with an 'SOS' flash and a faster 'beacon' should you want them. The only downside is the push-button tailswitch used to change modes - which works perfectly, but takes some getting used to. The thing doesn't come with instructions, either, so I had to read the reviews to find out that a double-click switches to 'flashing' mode!At over a hundred quid, it's an expensive choice, but you get an adaptable, powerful and long lasting light for your money. Once you've made the investment though, decent rechargable 'AA's will run it very cheaply.

5Amazing!
By Travellingbirder
This torch/flashlight is truly amazing. It is brighter than even the six cell Maglite, extremely compact, very well designed and engineered. As it uses AA cells, either normal or rechargeable batteries can be found anywhere in the world. It might seem expensive but you get what you pay for, this is a top-notch product.
