Superb device.
By Mr. Timothy Linford
This device surpassed my expectations and my expectations were high. The device is easy to use and had very usable features, including a microphone sensitivity switch. I would say to people trying to decide how much to pay for a dictation machine, what is it for? If it is for recording your own voice, or other close work, then spending less is ok. My requirement was for recording university lectures and seminar, so I felt that it was worth spending more, for this requirement, this device is superb. I can sit at around 20 feet, the device picks up a pin-drop. This is not to say that is is oversensitive to back-ground noise, the device has noise cancelation processing and this works! The build quality of this device is great, all metal construction, the stereo microphone is excellent, also there is a standard quality condenser mic underneath the stereo mic, so there is a back-up.Additionally I use my dictaphone with an Apple MAC. I was let to believe that the DSS software that comes with the device is PC only. The disc that came with the machine, contained a PC only application. However, I emailed Olympus asking if there was a Mac version available for the DS-65. Within 2 hours of my e-mail, Olympus responded, supplying be with a path to their server with the Mac DSS application. I downloaded it, used the licence code that came with the PC application. The DSS application is brilliant, and this was the extra for me.. This is a serious client application for the DS-65, it organises the files in the original file format (Windows Media Player), there is no need to convert them unless you want to. The application

Fantastic
By Anne Anstruther
The more I use this the more uses I find for it. Recording basically anything - I have used it for minutes, for talks, instead of a diary, and for taking notes, for recording ideas as they occur without the need for paper and pencil, recording bird/animal sounds, the sounds of nature, a memory of times with friends and relatives. And all contained in this hand-held machine. The perfect size and weight for a pocket this product is simple to use, efficient, and very versatile. With a good, slip-on carrying-case and a long battery life it really is an easy-care, efficient, functional friend. So far, as mentioned by another reviewer, the only slight down-point is that the files cannot be re-named.At this point in time I would not even look for another brand.
