5Second time does good
By Reina H. Watt
If there's one thing that's a constant in Transformers lines since the 80s is repaints. The original G1's had a lot of repaints for example, some still fondly remembered to this day.Take the toys of G1 Prowl, Silverstreak and Smokescreen for example. Prowl had the sirens, Smokescreen had a sports bumper, Silverstreak looked more street design. Now it's 2009 and the Classics line has been mostly, aside from the repaints from previous lines and the mini cons, new designs which have been remakes of older Generation One characters. And so far have been pretty good.So this is a review of Classics/Universe Silverstreak. A repaint and slight redesign of Prowl of the same line.Silverstreak is a more street design from Prowl's police car look. Where Prowl had sirens, Silverstreak doesn't. Prowl had the words Police on his sides, Silverstreak doesn't.But where Prowl was black and white, Silverstreak is black, silver, red in parts and a little blue.So alt mode: The alt mode is the same as Prowl's, it's a well designed mode in total. The colours in alt mode are black from front to middle with silver on the sides and the bumper. There's a red Autobot symbol that stands up really well. The wheels have red wheel rims, which looks good, the spoiler is more of a flat plastic grey. The back bumper is black. The clear windows a tinted blue, almost like an ice blue. The back windows sadly aren't clear. This is a very design paint job and thankfully doesn't suffer from the sticky paint issue that Prowl has. However the back flaps are quite loose and don't quite hold in place.Bot mode: Transformation is much the same as Prowl's, however the side panels pop off even easier, so be careful. Also the front section for flipping the head up pops off very easily, so be careful there as well.Bot mode is where even more colours shows, the black and silver is still quite strong. His upper legs and arms are red with the fore arms a flat grey, the mid section has light blues with a silver grill and a flat grey connection part. His 'missile launchers' are red in the aft and silver for the missiles, the head is a flat grey with a white face and red 'wings'. I have to admit that it's quite striking. His gun is grey, but I just switched his gun with Classic/Universe Smokescreen's gun, who I will review after this, and the red gun looks a lot better on Silverstreak than Smokescreen.Articulation is the same as Prowl's, his upper legs are a tad on the stiff side, but they move well with some effort.A beautiful bot mode.So is he worth getting? Yes and no. Yes because he is a beautiful repaint, the paint doesn't have the problems that Prowl has and the colours all gel well together. Plus he's another part of the remakes of the original Autobots three - Prowl, Silverstreak and Smokescreen. No because he is pretty much just a repaint minus Prowl's sirens, also his side panels and front section do pop off a little too easily. So that's the review, a good repaint that looks excellent, he has problems, but at least he doesn't fall apart with a breeze. Plus with Prowl and Smokescreen, he looks even better, also with Smokescreen's gun, he looks just as he should. The choice is yours in the end though as the buyer, but I'm glad I decided to get him. Now if only Hasbro would release Thundercracker, Dirge and Thrust for the Universe line over here, that would be another great team to fully get.
